Kill Your Boyfriend Cover Art by Philip Bond It’s true of the Great Detective, and it’s true of Morrison too. There’s a line from the Sherlock Holmes stories about how a great mind could take a drop of water and argue for the existence of an ocean somewhere. Even in the smaller books, there’s a bigger story, an aim. Morrison and pretty much every commentator worth their salt has argued for a long-term shift away from the mega-gritty heroes of the present day: what Morrison called “torment superheroes.” Seaguy is one of Morrison’s back-to-basics efforts, but even his easygoing work has the author aiming high. Think of it as a mission statement rendered in panels. The series has been published sporadically since 2004. Seaguy is a superhero rigged up in scuba gear, who pals around with a cigar-smoking floating fish, Chubby Da Choona. And so, a list of 15 comics by Grant Morrison, beloved of the Scorpion god. The Scotsman is kind of a scout for the discipline of comics: a finder-out and a deep-delver in the field. Even if you don’t like heroes, Morrison still ought to rank high on your list. He has been compared to a griot: a specialized cultural bard who sings ritualized stories about important legends for the benefit of society. In a demographic that scorns superheroes, Morrison is unabashedly pro-cape. Since the Reagan Era, Morrison has put his stamp on every kind of mainstream comic. He started appearing in American comics back in the ‘80s, and hasn’t slowed down in 30 years. Morrison was part of the wave of British innovators imported by Karen Berger, the greatest editor of the modern epoch. Grant Morrison might not be a prophet, but how could we tell? Morrison has been with us for three decades, and has rarely, if ever, been wrong. Īround this time, Oshii was hired to direct a movie for Lupin the Third for summer 1985, for which he started writing a column in Animage magazine in December 1984. In the midst of his work with Studio Pierrot, Oshii took on independent work and directed the first OVA, Dallos, in 1983. Dallos, Lupin, Angel's Egg and Anchor (1983–1985) Beautiful Dreamer is also notable for experimenting with concepts such as a time loop, where a high-school class relives the same day over and over again, as well as dreams and reality manipulation. Beautiful Dreamer was also written by Oshii with no consultation from Takahashi and was a significant departure and an early example of his now contemporary style. The first film, though an original story, continued much in the spirit of the series. Following its success, he directed two Urusei Yatsura films: Urusei Yatsura: Only You (1983) and Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer (1984). Mamoru Oshii's work as director and storyboard artist of the animated Urusei Yatsura TV series brought him into the spotlight. In 1980, he moved to Studio Pierrot under the supervision of his mentor, Hisayuki Toriumi. During this period at Tatsunoko, Oshii worked on many anime as a storyboard artist, most of which were part of the Time Bokan television series. The following year, he entered Tatsunoko Productions and worked on his first anime as a storyboard artist on Ippatsu Kanta-kun. In 1976, he graduated from Tokyo Gakugei University. He was also influenced by his father, who was a cinephile. These filmmakers, together with Jean-Luc Godard, Andrei Tarkovsky and Jerzy Kawalerowicz, would later serve as influences for Oshii's own cinematic career. He also repeatedly watched European cinema, such as films by Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman, Michelangelo Antonioni and Jean-Pierre Melville. Career Early career (1977–1982) Īs a student, Mamoru Oshii was fascinated by the film La Jetée by Chris Marker. He has also attracted praise from many directors, including James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and The Wachowskis, especially for his work on Ghost in the Shell. His most notable works as a writer include the manga Kerberos Panzer Cop (1988–2000) and its feature film adaptation Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999).įor his work, Oshii has received and been nominated for numerous awards, including the Palme d'Or and Leone d'Oro (Golden Lion). As a writer, Oshii has worked as a screenwriter, and occasionally as a manga writer and novelist. He also holds the distinction of having created the first ever OVA, Dallos (1983). Famous for his philosophy-oriented storytelling, Oshii has directed a number of acclaimed anime films, including Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer (1984), Angel's Egg (1985), Patlabor 2: The Movie (1993), and Ghost in the Shell (1995). Talk to me about diversity on Broadway. Come down to the Golden Theater and see "Thoughts of a Colored Man." It is wonderful. What have pre-ticket sales been like? How are things looking?īRIAN MORELAND: Broadway is 100% back. We're asking the same thing of our audiences as they come back to Broadway to do the exact same thing, to be vaccinated and/or present a negative test at the door, and wear your mask through the performance. And I have to say that it's been rewarding because we know at least we are all safe. But I will say that it's been very, very fortunate. Let's say that much, it is not a cheap pandemic. Talk about what it's been like to stage a play during the pandemic and the challenges, including the cost of having to do that, because I know that it also adds to the overall cost.īRIAN MORELAND: Absolutely. There's a whole lot of laughter, all based in slam poetry and music intertwined to tell this story of "Thoughts of a Colored Man," alive, Black, and thriving in the 21st century. I read it, and had never read anything like this before, a play about seven Black men growing up and living in Brooklyn, set over 24 hours, discussing their greatest joys and their greatest fears. So Keenan Scott II sent me this play about six years ago, while I was living in London. Without giving too much away, tell us a little bit more about the play, and why you felt passionate about bringing it to the stage.īRIAN MORELAND: Oh, absolutely. I know it takes place in one day in Brooklyn, and how these seven Black men sort of interact on that one day. So talk to me about the premise of the play. on this hot, beautiful day in Times Square. GRAVES, SR.BRIAN MORELAND: Oh, thank you so much for having me.

The rest of the associates and who I believe was the manager, were also extremely friendly which is hard to find nowadays in retail establishments. I will be returning to the Columbia location with more relatives to be fitted by Angie, her customer service is outstanding!! do yourself a favor and call to make an appointment!! I don’t know how she did it, but she did. Fast forward, my feet NEVER felt this great. She gave me some orthotics custom made to the shape of my foot which I immediately loved! I had no idea that you could have those made in under 5 minutes. She answered all of my questions, and I got to Learn so many things about my feet that I didn’t even know!! isn’t that amazing? Angie was incredibly detailed guiding me through, and patient explaining the process. I was a little skeptical at first thinking it was gonna be a pushy sale but it was the opposite. She explained me that the best option for me was going through a process to see everything about my feet and determine the right shoe for me. Around 2 weeks ago I walked into the Road runner store with my husband with really bad plantar fasciitis and Achilles issues, a sales associate greeted us, and after a short wait I was paired with Angie (Thanks Lord) The apply step does a merge of the stashed changes, using Git's powerful underlying merge machinery, the same kind of thing it uses when you do branch merges. (They're still in the repository, and can sometimes be retrieved in an emergency, but for most purposes, you should consider them gone at that point.) This deletes the reference to the weird non-branch-y commits. If all goes well, and you like the results, you should then git stash drop the stash. Switch branches, then "apply" the stash: $ git checkout develop The commits it makes are not "on" anyīranch but are now safely stored in the repository, so you can now This commits your code (yes, it really does make some commits) usingĪ weird non-branch-y method. Run git stash save or git stash push, 1 or just plain git stash which is short for save / push: $ git stash The easiest is probably git stash (as all the other answer-ers If not ( error: Your local changes to the following files would be overwritten. Now you can commit and the new stuff is all on develop. This creates a new develop branch starting from wherever you are If you don't have a develop yet, the method is trivial: $ git checkout -b develop So now you want these changes, which you have not yet committed to master, to be on develop. return, edit a bunch of stuff, then: oops, wanted to be on develop Let's take a classic mistake: $ git checkout master Resolve conflicts or abort the merge with git merge -abort.There are a bunch of different ways depending on how far along you are and which branch(es) you want them on. The recovery is same as described in Conflict resolution. Git pull can create a conflict since git pull always also includes a git merge (more about this Recovering from conflict after git pull But sometimes we run this command on the wrong branch.Ĭheck with git log the commit hash that you would like to rewind the Git merge, git rebase, and git pull modify the current branch, never Recovering from merging/pulling into the wrong branch Ĭheck with git log or git graph that both branches point to the same, latest, commit. Solution 2 using git reset –hard (makes sense if the correct branch shouldĬontain all commits of the accidentally modified branch):Ĭreate the correct branch, pointing at the latest commit: git branch. Rewind the branch that accidentally got wrong commits with git reset -hard (see also above). Cherry-pick all commits that should have gone to the correct Git cherry-pick can be used to take a specific commit to theĬurrent branch. Make sure toĬreate it from the commit hash where you wish you had created it from: git branch Make sure that the correct branch exists and if not, create it. I'm going to start with the standard functions for Google Sheets that will remove your text strings and characters from cells. In this tutorial, you have learned how to use the SQL TRIM function to remove unwanted characters from a string.Formulas for Google Sheets to remove text from cells Phone_number = TRIM(phone_number) Code language: SQL (Structured Query Language) ( sql ) If you need to clean up data, you can use the UPDATE statement with the TRIM function to remove all unwanted characters from the database especially the spaces.įor example, the following statement removes all leading and trailing spaces in the first_name, last_name, email, and phone_number columns of the employees table. If you are not, the data not clean that results in incorrect matching using the WHERE clause. Before insert or update the database, you need to validate and remove the spaces. Sometimes, when users submit the form that contains input fields such as first name, last name, email, phone, etc., the data may contain leading and/or trailing spaces. SELECT TRIM( FROM Code language: SQL (Structured Query Language) ( sql ) trim The following statement removes both leading and trailing of the string. SELECT TRIM( LEADING '0' FROM '00001900') Code language: SQL (Structured Query Language) ( sql ) trim The following statement removes leading zero of a string because the trim_character is ‘0’. Of course, the length of the result string must be three. The following statement removes both leading and trailing spaces of the string. SELECT LENGTH( TRIM(TRAILING FROM ' SQL ')) The length of the string must be five because the TRIM function removes one space at the end of the string. The following statement uses the TRIM function with the TRAILING option removes all trailing blank spaces of the string. SELECT LENGTH( TRIM( LEADING FROM ' SQL ')) The length of the result string must be four because the TRIM function removes two spaces at the beginning of the string. You can test it by using the LENGTH function. The following statement uses the TRIM function with the LEADING option to remove all leading spaces of the string. (1 row) Code language: SQL (Structured Query Language) ( sql ) SELECT LENGTH( ' SQL ') Code language: SQL (Structured Query Language) ( sql ) length Suppose we have a string that contains two spaces at the beginning and one space at the end of the string ( ' SQL '). The TRIM function returns NULL if either trim_character or source string is NULL.
